Associate Vice President of Public Affairs – Lobbyist
Michelle Romero serves as the Associate Vice President of Public Affairs with the Texas Medical Association’s advocacy team. She joined TMA in August 2006 and specializes in issues related to scope of practice, telemedicine, rural health, substance use disorder & opioids, corporate practice of medicine, hospital and medical staff issues, pharmaceuticals and prescribing, tort reform, and the Texas Medical Board. In addition to her TMA lobby duties, Ms. Romero staffs the TMA Border Health Caucus.
With over 34 years’ experience in public policy and advocacy, Ms. Romero brings extensive experience navigating the legislative process to TMA. Before moving to the lobby arena, she served as a legislative director in the Texas Senate and as a chief of staff in the Texas House of Representatives.
Ms. Romero earned a bachelor’s degree in history from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in public administration from Texas State University in San Marcos.
